Did you know that CAN/ULC-S1001 Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems is now a building code requirement in Manitoba? This standard helps ensure that all the fire protection and life safety systems in your building, such as sprinklers, fire alarm, emergency lighting, smoke control, etc., are properly integrated and functioning as a whole. This means that in case of a fire or emergency, your building will be able to alert, protect, and evacuate its occupants effectively. At Crosier Kilgour, we have the expertise and experience to help you comply with CAN/ULC-S1001 and lead the integrated testing process, which involves verifying and documenting the interconnections and performance of all the associated systems in your building. We can also advise you on how to maintain and update your systems to ensure future compliance and performance.#winnipeg #winnipegbusiness #winnipeglife #engineers #building #nationalbuildingcode #structuralengineering #buildingenvelope #commissioning #sustainability #buildingperformance

Our Fire Damper Testing and Remedial Service 🔥👷🏻♂️We are committed to conducting a comprehensive survey, testing, and inspection of the fire dampers within the building. Our assessment by our team of experts will encompass evaluating the condition and operational efficiency of the fire dampers, assessing dust accumulation, inspecting fire stopping measures, and verifying the damper's positioning within fire compartment walls. If fire dampers are inoperable, we promptly address the problem to uphold building safety. Upon completion, a detailed testing report accompanied by photographic evidence will be provided to ensure the accuracy and compliance of your records.➡️RemedialsIn case of any mechanical faults or issues, we would consider the following remedial actions:👷🏻♂️Mechanics:Whether it involves replacing a fusible link, servicing the control panels, or replacing the entire fire damper.👷🏻♂️Defects: Our action plan includes sealing the faulty fire compartments to restore their functionality.👷🏻♂️Insufficient access: Installation and maintenance of fire dampers requires a DW144 access door as part of BESA standards. We can install hatches and access doors to allow access for maintenance.➡️Why ❓ Fire dampers are a critical component of passive fire protection systems, serving to contain the spread of fire and smoke, protect escape routes, preserve property, comply with regulations, and integrate with other fire safety measures. Their proper installation, maintenance, and operation are essential for enhancing the overall fire safety of buildings and protecting the lives and assets within them. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at info@awbandson.com or by phone at 01909 768799.#FireDamperSafety #FireDamperInspection #FireDamperInstallation #FireDamperRemedials#PassiveFireProtection #BuildingSafety #BuildingRegulations

Protecting Lives, One Cable at a TimeRecent fires in #Dagenham and at Somerset House have highlighted the urgent need for stricter building safety measures. One critical area often overlooked is cable specification.Standard fire-resistant cables can fail under real fire conditions, compromising vital safety systems. Fire survival cables, such as MICC, are proven to safely carry a load in temperatures exceeding 1000°C.Our Group Manager, Colin Hughes, emphasizes, "By ensuring that critical components like MICC cables are properly understood and specified, we can significantly improve building safety and save lives."Download our white paper to learn how fire survival cables can make the difference between life and death.https://lnkd.in/emZ_J_kJ#FireSafety #BuildingSafety #MICC #FireSurvivalCables #Wrexham

How should fire water tanks be maintained? As per the Australian standard AS2304-2011, fire water storage tanks are critical for providing stored water for fire pumps and suppression systems. As such, it’s essential to ensure that these tanks are well-maintained and functioning correctly. Our services use the latest technologies to be cost-effective while minimising water supply disruptions. Our inspections are performed according to the Australian standard AS1851, which outlines the frequency of inspections and maintenance requirements for fire protection systems. We understand the importance of conducting thorough inspections of fire water storage tanks to ensure that they are free of any defects that may compromise their functionality in the event of a fire. Our inspections include internal inspections of all tank components using specialist trained divers, ensuring safe access while the tank remains in service. We do not offer ROV inspections and cleaning of tanks, as this doesn’t meet the minimum requirements of AS1851.In addition to internal inspections, we also perform external inspections of water tank components to identify any potential issues that may arise due to environmental factors. This ensures that the tank remains free of obstructions that may prevent proper operation in the event of a fire. For water storage tanks installation and maintenance in QLD, reach out to SAFE.

I don't get involved with fire safety or #ApprovedDocument #PartB, but I know some of you can't avoid it.There are more changes on the way, nicely summarised at this link. It's worth noting this was published a few days before the recommendations of the #Grenfell Inquiry. The upcoming amendments to the #FireSafety section of English #BuildingRegulations are:* From March 2025: sprinklers will be required in all new care homes, regardless of building height.* From September 2026: changes for when a new residential building over 18 metres requires a second staircase.* And, over the coming five years, BS476 (the UK testing method for fire resistance and reaction) will be phased out in favour of the European Standard BS EN 13501. This will become the 'sole route of specification' for classifying the fire safety of products. https://lnkd.in/eNjQRWeU

What is a Dry Riser and how is it different to a Wet Riser?Fire safety systems are essential components of any building’s infrastructure, especially in high-rise buildings and large complexes. Among these systems, risers play a crucial role in delivering water to combat fires. There are two primary types of risers: dry risers and wet risers. Understanding the differences between these systems can help in making informed decisions about fire safety. In this blog, we will explain the differences:https://lnkd.in/eMub5wf4Why do you need Dry Risers? For optimal functionality and adherence to legal standards, your system must undergo careful design, installation, and regular testing in accordance withBritish Standards. In the event of a fire, the individual responsible for the building – be it the property owner, landlord, or facilities manager – must demonstrate that the dry riser system has been regularly tested and possesses a valid certificate of compliance. As per BS9990 guidelines, it is recommended to visually test a dry riser every six months, and legally, dry risers must undergo an annual testing requirement. This ensures not only the effectiveness of the system but also its alignment with legal obligations.Get in touch with the Fire Suppression Specialists here @ ULTRASAFE FIRE SUPPRESSIONInvest in the safety of protecting what matters most.Contact us today: https://lnkd.in/e2nQ7JRM for a quote or to learn more about our comprehensive dry riser solutions.
